The construction of the Transcontinental Railroad was a massive undertaking thatrequired significant engineering expertise and the labor of countless workers. These individualsbuilt the most expansive network of rails that connected the North American continent. TheGolden Spike is an important symbol of Old West history, immigration, and, most importantly,the history of the American people.To say the least, the trip to the Golden Spike National Historical Park is not a short journey.However, reflecting on the hardships faced by the railroad workers puts my own complaints intoperspective. Stepping onto the historical grounds felt meaningful. The blood, sweat, and tearsthat went into building the railroad seemed almost tangible. While exploring the park, I stumbledupon something I hadn’t expected—an emotional tribute to the workers who were oftenforgotten and badly mistreated.We took the East Grade Auto Tour to the Chinese Arch. A short walk from the car brought us tothis impressive natural feature, a striking piece of beauty and dedication that made the GoldenSpike Historical Park feel even more human.The story of the Golden Spike is not only one of remarkable engineering achievements but alsoof the will and sacrifices of the human spirit. It’s a story of creating something that endures—notjust for a moment, but for a lifetime
